Hi
I keep getting this error message

Sorry as a new user you are not allowed to post with links. This is done to stop spammers clogging up the site. Please edit your message below to continue.

I've previewed my post/copied it into Word and I can't find a link in it to edit out.

Any ideas please?
Thanks

I don't understand what it is you want :(
  • Thanks for replying.

I've just joined and I typed out a post to start a new thread with. When I tried to submit it, I got the error message below:

So I couldn't start the new thread. I've done my best to make sure my post didn't have a link in it. I previewed it and then copied and pasted the text into Word to see if it would show that there was a link. Nothing found. I still can't submit it - the error message keeps appearing.

There may be a link you are not seeing? Maybe an image?

If you click the switchmode.gif at the top right of the edit box after you have pasted in, that should switch the editor to 'basic' mode which shows all the formatting in your post, including and links that may be hiding.

Without seeing the message it is difficult to say what you may have done wrong, are you copying in a picture? or even text from somewhere else.

If they are just typing a normal post in the editor here without doing anything else, then yes nothing should stop it.

I was assuming that they are copying something in from elsewhere rather than typing out, which may be carrying across a link?

  • Hi
Thanks everyone. I copied it back over from Word and clicked the button Fermi showed. The only thing I could see that might be a link was the emoticon smilie so I deleted that and it worked!
I didn't know that the website's own smilies were classed as links/not available to new users sorry.
    Thanks again for helping.
  • I just tried to post again with the smilieto see if it works and it won't let me submit the post so I guess smilies are verboten for now - except, oddly, for those I type using : and ) which come out as :)

Smiley will be OK if inserted by clicking their button in the editor or typing the code in.

If copy/pasted back and forth though it can end up getting inserted in the code as an image link instead, rather than something built in, which the forum will see as a link.
