Mortgage Advice Required

It's a long story but here goes. Me and my hubby own a property with a Santander mortgage. Around 5 years ago we swapped houses with my mother changed addresses etc and we now live in her house which is owned outright.

The property's are around the same value and what we want to do now is transfer our mortgage to her house (the one we live in) and she will transfer ownership of our house to her.

To complicate matters we have been on a debt management plan which has been successfully cleared in 2014. We now have no debt at all apart from mortgage, but have several defaults from 2012. I recently did a fixed rate with Santander and this seemed to go ok and they did not pick up on the debt and that I am not living in the house. By the way no rent is being paid by my mother. What do you reckon our chances are of getting the mortgage transferred. I am afraid to ask Santander 😭

At best you've almost certainly breached your mortgage T&C's by doing what you have.

I'd imagine the only reason Santander did a fix is because it was a retention deal requiring very few checks.

I'd be amazed if you got a lender to agree to what you want.
  • How about if we change our address back over do you think that would help.?

Bit of a mess really 😭
