CSA chasing arrears that have already been paid

Hi Everyone, sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section, but I desperately need advised.
In 2005 my husband received a letter from the CSA to say his case had now closed, however my husband still owed arrears that he would need to continue to pay, which he did. Then in 2006 we got another letter from the CSA to say the arrears where not being cleared quick enough, and could he either clear the arrears in full or increase his payments. He decided to use his credit card to clear the £2311.49 arrears. This was paid over the phone and the, and he was told that he could cancel his weekly Direct Debit, again which he did.
Now 9 years later, to our complete shock & horror he has just received a letter from the CSA to say he owes £5500 in child maintenance arrears, and they want this money NOW. This is for the same child that we believed was cleared back in 2006.
Please can someone help/advise as to how they can send us this letter all these years later when we believed everything was cleared.
We do however have the original letter from 2005 that states the case was closed, and we have the letter from 2006 that say the arrears were £2311.49. All these letters have the CSA case workers name, number ect, so surely this should prove that we don't owe anything else.
Thanks

The first thing I would do is get a copy of the case notes. This used to cost £10 but i believe its free now. Once you have them you can go through them and see if you can make sense of it. You could also ask your MP to get involved and ask for a full account breakdown.
Have you actually spoken to them since this new letter came?0 -
Hi, thanks for replying.
We only got the letter on Friday & there offices were closed. We are calling them first thing Monday morning.
I just don't understand how they now say we owe the money when this case was all settled in 2006, do the CSA make mistakes like this?

The can and do, but so do some customers (NRP and PWC) .
I keep a file of all correspondance and transactions with them, and will keep the file many years after my case is deemed closed.0
