Allied International Over Payments

Hi All

This is my first post so please be patient.

I have just got off the phone with Allied International Corp to find out my account with them to settle a debt had been closed since March 2011! However, they have still been taking payments of £100 from my bank account, with the last one being taken in August this year. I have requested a refund and supplied all statements showing evidence of payments being made after the close date of the account. My question is am i entitled to an interest payment on the amount owed to me? As you can imagine the amount owed to me is a considerable amount of money and from memory/other post regarding this company they are very quick to jump on you if you miss or are late with a payment to them. Anybody else had any dealings with AIC?

    Hi,

Did you did not notice them taking the payment every month ?

How much was the debt for, and is it now paid in full ?

You should be entitled to interest at 8% per year, as a court would award, but you may have to refer your case to the financial ombudsman service in order to get it.

You should also make your refund request in writing, as phone calls can easily be ignored.

    Hi Andy

It is worth clarifying with AIC whether "closed" means the account had been paid off by 2011, or simply sold off to someone else altogether. Either way, you should of course expect AIC to return any payments they were not entitled to cash and the Ombudsman would be able to assist if a complaint did not do the trick.

  • Thanks for the quick replies

They said they had "closed" the account and moved it on to someone else - which i also pay a monthly instalment to. They have said they will issue a refund, however i am just really annoyed at the fact that they can continue to line their pockets with my money when this money could have been paid to clear the debt over the last 4 1/2 years.

I have sent an email to the lady i spoke to, attached my bank statements showing the payments going out and demanded a refund within 7 days. With regards to the interest, i will follow this up with them in a second email - thanks for the advice.

If you are in default on that debt, it doesn't do to be too indignant about your payments to the original creditor unless you have paid more than needed to clear the account.

If you have other debts and they are all in a DMP, then you have effectively paid this creditor preferentially and you would be right to be indignant on behalf of your other creditors.

You might not recover any money which is not an overpayment on the original debt - it could just be sent to the DCA towards your debt. If this happens, make sure you get written acknowledgement and keep this carefully.

If you do get a refund it should strictly be split between the remaining creditors, but you could consider using it to make F&F offers to other creditors.

were you paying by standing order...
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
