Overtime

Hello everyone
My employers in their wisdom want to pay us our overtime annually in arrears! I think it may be a little bit cheeky of them but is it legal? What about income tax and pension delayed payments ? We have no Union for support. Overtime should be around £3k for the year.
Thanks in advance,
Jim2

Here is an issue to collectively organise on. Pick the phone up to a union and ask if someone can come and talk to you folks.
Agreed. If you all organise to negotiate, or if needs be to refuse overtime on these terms, then you should be able to achieve some movement in the policy.0 -
What does your contract of employment say about overtime at the moment? Is it guarantee, non-guaranteed, compulsory or non-compulsory overtime?
They cannot unilaterally change your contract of employment without consulting with you or getting your agreement. If they do this you may have a claim for breach of contract.Competition wins £14,136.30[\COLOR]0 -
Overtime is fantastic when you need a bit of extra cash, depending on how much your employer throws around.
The idea of waiting a year for it doesnt sound too good though. Less you get it all paid before Christmas/Birthdays but what also happens when employer goes bust?0 -
Make sure they don't insert a clause into the contract that you forfeit the overtime if you serve notice in that year.
It's unlikely they would but you never know0 -
Hi everyone, sorry for delay but I've been on holiday.
I think my employers were seeing how far they could push us, we basically said we weren't playing ball and they immediately renaged on their intentions. Overtime is regular and quite substantial so with 12 of us in affected department savings for the company would, potentially be quite considerable. They have already slashed the shift rate! Never mind, the bosses car park is full of the finest offerings from Germany and Sweden, so at least some employees are doing just fine!
Thanks for your previous replies.
Ps, union is a swear word at our work btw!0 -
I hear what your saying but don't you think as soon as they get a sniff of anyone being a member of a union, they could see that person as a nuisance they don't need? Not blatantly obviously!0
