I have decided to take part in the village show this weekend. I have toms to put in and i am going to do some baking. Has anyone got any tips. I have never done this before and don't want to make any newbie mistakes. Thanks

Think about presentation- a nice plate or cloth to lay them on etc can make such a differenceIf you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation0

I think tomatoes are often presented on a white plate and are sometimes sat on a layer of sand to stop them rolling around The show may have rules on presentation.
If you do a search on google images for "horticultural show tomato presentation" you may get some ideas.
Good luck for the show0 -
The tomatoes need to be identical, typical for their cultivar, green stalky bits in place and not all curled up. Cherry tomatoes might have on the stem required. Do look at the schedule closely. Give yourself lots of time to stage and keep in the allocated area for your number.
With the baking, good luck...if you have a WI judge they are really strict. The comments are often exceptionally helpful for doi g better next time.
After the judging, look closely at who has done well, congratulate them and ask for tips!
The local show is great for building community....the folks on the committee most likely run lots of other things too...0 -
