Vodafone Old Default

Hi All,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Any help is appreciated.

I had an account with Vodafone that should have finished mid 2013. Missed a few payments and it dragged out until Feb 2014 when they passed the account to a DCA.
I spoke to the DCA and was offered a Full and Final settlement of about 70% of the total balance. Paid this, they were happy that no further funds due and would pass the account back to Vodafone.

Vodafone then defaulted my account from Feb 2014 and the default is still on my account. I was thinking that this should change to settled or partially settled - am I wrong here?
I have spoken to Vodafone again after being passed between them and the DCA numerous times - and they want me to pay the rest of the balance and then they advised they will change the default to settled.
I am currently refusing as I thought a full and final meant just that - final.

Can anyone help or has anyone experience something similar and got the default removed?

Thanks in advance

Oasis

  • I am of the understanding that even if you paid the so called balance now, that the default would remain on your credit file for a period of 6 years from the default date. In other words the damage is already done.

However, if vodafone have stated in writing that they will remove the default marker if the so called balance is paid, I'd be tempted to just pay it.

Guess it comes down to exactly what you have in writing from them.

    Benny is correct.

The default will remain for six years wether settled or not.

It appears from your post, vodaphone may be willing to remove the default, if you pay the original outstanding balance.

Depends what is more important to you.

A default remains a default and stays there. It is just marked as a satisfied/settled one until it drops off after 6 years.

  • It seems however, they should have defaulted you sooner? Worth complaining and saying you are being unfairly disadvantaged by them defaulting on you then NOT when the original agreement was broken in 2013 ( I am guessing that date from your post)

    Paid off all Catalogues 10.10.2014
  • They issued a default against me unfairly, I took them through the courts and they removed it which opened my eyes to this situation.

Any company can remove a default from your credit file if it's been incorrectly filed, if as others have said you've been unfairly disadvantaged then trying querying the default with the credit reference agency and with Vodafone.

If they still don't play ball you could go down the Office Of The Information Commissioner route as "technically" it's inaccurate information they are sharing and has caused you a detriment.

  • Hi Lee,

Sorry to button into someone elses post but I am having a similar problem.

I need a defaulted mark on my credit file from Vodafone removed. I had a contract in 2011 and when the contract finished I cancelled it. I was not informed that I still owed £47 on it and moved address a couple of months later. Recently tried to get another phone contract and I was refused. So checked my credit file and realised it was a vodafone defaulted account that was the reason for this.

I have since called vodafone and (after a lot of running around and several frustrating phone calls) payed the full debt. I was told from Vodafone that the account would be removed from my credit file however it is still there.

No-one seems to have any idea who I shold speak to about this and I am unable to resolve it on the website because I no longer have a vodafone contract and can't remember the old phone number.

    Please help!

    Kind regards,
    Kerry.
