Ideas for meals when we are not all eating at the same time

Options
Hi guys, so my hubby gets home at 5.30 and I have to go out three nights a week for karate and to help with Rainbows, my hubby can barely boil an egg so if I left him to his own devices he would end up having peanut butter sandwiches for tea or expect me to make something when I got home at 8. Anyway I am looking for meals that will be good for me and the kids to eat but then can left on for hubby to dish himself some up when he gets home. Any ideas? Thanks

My hubby used to get home late about an hour after the kids and I ate. I plated up his dinner which was the same as ours and he just microwaved it for 3 mins. You don't have to make special meals pretty much anything can be re-heated in the microwave when required. :)

Any slow cooker meal will keep nice and hot:

Sausage casserole and liver and onions can be served with bread
Chilli and curry can be served with microwave rice
If he can cook spaghetti, he can have spagbol
You can do lasagne in the slow cooker, tagines, soups - you can even have a roast chicken/beef/pork in there, and precut some vegetables to bung in the oven for half an hour.

I second using the slow cooker for things, especially if he CBA to heat anything up!
Research has also shown that reheated pasta is much better (than fresh) for you with a low GI but just remember to keep aside some of the pasta cooking water and add some in to the finished meal so it will stay nice and loose and perfect for reheating. Much healthier and more efficient than using lots of oil.

This. My husband gets home after I've eaten with my daughter several times a week - he just bungs his pasta/risotto/fish pie/stir fry/curry in the microwave. He can do eggs, though, so if we had egg and chips he does his own! It's mostly fine, but he gets really grateful at the weekends when he gets to eat freshly cooked food! :)

This is why microwaves were developed :)

if you dont have one, leaved the plate ontop of a saucepan of simmering water as we did before microwaves were invented :)

I work most nights and have to leave a dinner for mum and hubby. If its something that needs to go in the oven, I draw a diagram with clear instructions on what dial, how long etc etc etc - they manage
  • casseroles, soups, stews...all of those would be easy for him to heat up.

You could teach him to cook !

I find it really really hard to believe there are men still out there who can't (rather than won't) cook. If it's won't then peanut butter sandwiches sound fine ;)

Chilli - presumably he could handle microwaving a packet of microwave rice

Caserole with a jacket potatoe done in the oven at the same time in foil

Baked lamb chops - with the same jacket potato or microwave mash

(My OH is in his fifties and would think I'd gone insane if I expected to cook his meal for him if I was out . He works shift so often we don't eat at the same time and he tends to cook more than me - unless it's steak cos he likes the way I cook it better LOL)
