Previous occupants using our address to obtain credit.

Hi all. I posted this in the bankruptcy thread and was adised to put it on here!

Myself and my husband were discharged from bankruptcy earlier this year and after having our house repossessed we have been privately renting. Our landlord bought the property as a repossession. Lovely, I thought, nice fresh start. But, oh no, we have had debt collectors at the door, official letters and now I have discovered that the previous occupants have been obtaining credit using this address, even within the last few days(they moved out months ago). They have had tv's, mobile contracts and everything. I contacted the mobile phone company concerned and they have confirmed that fraud has been committed and they will apply to have all of these applications and defaults removed from our credit files. We really dont need this. Does anyone have any advice out there as to what we can do or what may happen? This really is an awful thing to happen to us and I dont really have a full understanding of it all. Thank you. Ps...do I go to the police myself?

  • It would be worth going to the police. But if you get any letters etc write on them no longer at this address and put them back in the post box. If baliffs turn up show them your tenancy agreement and some ID and they'll go away,

  • Hey, thanks. I will take that on board. Since posting, I have spoken to a policeman friend and he has bascially backed up what you have said. He also said it should not affect my credit file, especially as they have now been found out! Keep up the good work with paying of your finances. I have just reaf Martins 'Money Diet' and what a help that has been, even teaching discharged bankrupts like us to manage our money better!:D
