Zero Hour Contracts Royal Mail

Hi
I'm currently on JSA, however there is a possibility of a zero hour contract with Royal Mail.
Obviously they will be very busy up until Christmas.
Has anyone out there had experience of zero hour contracts with Royal Mail? Was there plenty work to be had?
I have worked for Royal Mail many years ago, and overall think it's not a bad company, though a lot will have changed.
Cheers

To be honest, I think that the amount of work available will depend mostly on local factors, and so others experience of jobs within RM probably won't indicate how the particular job you're interested in will pan out.
I started working for RM a few years ago on a 25 hour temp christmas contract and I doubt there were many weeks where I did any less than 40 hours in the year I ended up staying there - there were always plenty of delivery rounds to cover after I had finished my own work.0 -
Is it definitely with the Royal Mail and not their agency Angard?
Angard usually employ the casuals - expect a phone call on the day that you are to work. Around 4 hours before your shift.
Expect late shifts, 2pm-10pm, 5pm-10pm, 10pm-7am, that sort of thing.
You can't book shifts and you won't have a rota. You are essentially on call. Of course you can turn shifts down but some say if you do that a few times you simply stop getting phone calls. They have HUNDREDS of casuals on their books to phone, no deal to them.
I hope for your sake your employer is the Royal Mail and not their agency.0
