Considering my situation at the time, in the past I have split anything I've found between me and the charity tins.
However, after losing £30 and it being handed in (thank you!) I've always handed it in.Spare change tin in force this year!NRAM PPI : £6022.56 - WIN! :jLLOYDS PPI : £4684.66 - WIN! :jMy Pearl of Wisdom : Don't be scared to say "I can't afford it", or "I'm skint" to anything... If you're lucky, you'll still be able to do what you want, just find a different way -and if you can't, you don't need it anyway!0 -
35 years ago I found a bundle of notes,£420 in total. An absolute fortune in 1980.I handed the cash into the local police station and because it was never claimed it was legally mine six months later. These days the police hold onto lost property for a much shorter time(six weeks I think).0

This happened with me too, I always used to think that if you handed it in to someone they where just going to pocket it, but when someone returned my money my opinion completely changed and now I try and find the person failing that hand it it!0 -
If a hole in the wall spits money out and someone doesnt take it it is swallowed again and credited to the account it came out of (as the technology knows the acc details). If it was cash back from a self service please hand it in. When I was pregnant I had awful baby brain and left money twice. Twice I got it back as some kind person had handed it in. They can see the acc details on the receipt if the staff print off and then if the person gets in touch they just ask for the bank card to verify. If not then they give to charity if not claimed.Married the lovely Mr P 28th April 2012. Little P born 29th Jan 20140

No taking it would be thieving. Anything lost on the store's property is the responsibility of the store, not for joe public to do what they like with.0

Well having left a Tenner in one of these machines I was very grateful that it was handed in.
So be honest and hand it in.
Some time before this in a different shop I was given £10 to much cashback. The assistant was very grateful, apparently they have to make up shortfall if till is short ? But to me it was the obvious thing to do.
Then again if I found a tenner in the street ? Well, that is a different matter.0 -
Reading some of the replies reminded me of an incident some years ago.
A friends son and his mate where out riding there bikes when they ran over a carrier bag. It was quite lumpy so they looked inside, there was a canvas bag and in that a large amount of notes.
They took it to the local Police Station (remember them) and handed it in.
Apparently it contained over £6000, the wages for a local firm. The owner of the firm invited them along to say thank you. Well he did say thank you and gave them a reward. £10. To share !0
