Obtaining credit fraudently using my address

Hi,
Myself and my husband were discharged from bankruptcy earlier this year and after having our house repossessed we have been privately renting. Our landlord bought the property as a repossession. Lovely, I thought, nice fresh start. But, oh no, we have had debt collectors at the door, official letters and now I have discovered that the previous occupants have been obtaining credit using this address, even within the last few days(they moved out months ago). They have had tv's, mobile contracts and everything. I contacted the mobile phone company concerned and they have confirmed that fraud has been committed and they will apply to have all of these applications and defaults removed from our credit files. We really dont need this. Does anyone have any advice out there as to what we can do or what may happen? This really is an awful thing to happen to us and I dont really have a full understanding of it all. Thank you. Ps...do I go to the police myself?

Since this isn't strictly an issue to do with the bankruptcy, it would be worth posting this question on the DFW board as well.

    Hi Kaz,

Your credit files are name specific not address specific so it's not going to cause you any problems in that respect. We had the same experience when we were in rented accomodation and it's not pleasant having people calling at your door. Some of them took quite a lot of persuading so we always kept proof of I.D handy. It didn't last that long but it's another one of those irritations that you can do without.

  • Thanks guys. I maybe worrying over nothing, but to me going bankrupt and losing your house is a big deal and then you get idiots like the previous occupants who think that they can get away with it. I must admit, it has made me much more alert!!
