  • I meal plan for our family of 4 but it isn't set in stone, for example, yesterday I had lamb hotpot on the list but I didn't fancy it so I chose 'Thursday's' meal which was fajitas. For me, it means I can go shopping once a week and know what I need to make all the meals for the week so that if I change my mind I can, BUT I don't have to go out and buy any ingredients needed.

I make the meal plan for us all but as we are an all adult household, we can all say 'I don't fancy that, can we change it to X', although my lot are pretty lazy and tend to eat whatever I put in front of them! :D

Why waste time going shopping together? Do it on alternate weeks then each can do it his/her own way.

She hasn't got a car (yet) :o Plus when I pick her up from work we are about 200meters from a Morissons

Well, either pick her up from the supermarket after she's done the shopping or pick her up from work after you have.

This isn't going to work if she's not on board.

You could save a lot of money shopping mostly at Lidl's and buying other essentials using mysupermarket to get the good prices. What I'd do is start buy making a note of everything you've got in already then making a meal plan from that buying only extra essential ingredients. But I'm not your fianc!e and I'm a real convert to meal planning both for the money and the time it saves (shopping and faffing about thinking what to eat during the week) and because I hate waste.

It might help if she can see a tangible outcome. Are you saving for something specific like a deposit or a holiday or a wedding?;)

Quite honestly, it's not really about shopping... Your fianc!e is a laid back kind of girl and you're one of life's list-makers. Since you've rejected the idea of going shopping separately and the other ideas offered, one of you is going to have to give in and do things the other's way. And it has to be done with good grace and without resentment.

Neither way will be the end of the world, you just have different personalities.

i don't mean to sound harsh but are you SURE this is the girl you want to marry? If she's difficult now, wait til you put a ring on her finger.

If you don't mind doing it, then do the shopping yourself and the meal planning. Cook for the week on the weekends and it won't matter how she feels after work, you can just microwave what's already been cooked.

I switched to Lidl and then buy anything else (coffee pods, special cat food at Amazon).

We meal plan, but have can switch around the 'days' we have any set meal, and always have beans on toast or instant noodles as a back-up. My DH can be a lazy cook, and totally has 'moods' of what he wants to cook, and what he wants to eat. (its just food, just cook it and eat it!).

He also wont re-heat anything (such as leftovers) ...but baby steps...one thing at a time. He used to eat ONLY branded stuff from Tesco, its taken a few years but we now happily shop in Lidl for over half of what we used to spend..
