Childcare question - informal arrangement

Fair point booksurr.
OH and I chatted this weekend - he already bought her a bunch of flowers Thursday when he collected DD. She's been clear she doesn't want payment. She's doing it as one friend helping out another. None of us want to be in the grey area.
I find the law so sad in this respect. I've had her kids countless times and vice versa. It's what friends do. Knowing she'd be having DD more regularly I just wanted to say thanks every now and then and not have to waste money on those thank yous by buying flowers that die, as that pains me.
The amount of thank you presents we buy as a couple, or "just because" presents, or "saw you were down" presents is quite high. It frustrates me that I can't do it for a good friend as it falls foul of the law.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
