Overcharging in Lidl

Has anyboby else experienced the same?

Each time i have shopped in Lidl on my last four visits I have been overcharged. During one shop was to the tune of £4.40.

I have noticed as they have gained popularity, they are now beginning to behave like the main high st contenders namely Tesco, Sainsburys etc. their shops have become so much busier you can queue for longer than it takes you to shop! With no customer services in store you are forced to find a team member and sometimes requeue to obtain your refund.

Can I suggest that other savvy shoppers take notice and check prices to avoid being overcharged. It can be so easily done, take extra care.

In my limited experience, Lidl & Aldi are much better at pricing accuracy than Tesco & Asda. When I used to shop at Tesco, I would be at Customer Services most weeks to get an overcharge refunded - sometimes with issues on 3 or 4 items.

The difference is that Tesco always; and Asda sometimes, compensate you beyond just the refund for an overcharge, whereas as L & A don't.

I wouldn't queue up to get a refund at L & A, though. Just loiter by the till, and the cashier will serve you before the next customer.
  • Recently I popped into Lidl, purchases 6 items, checked my receipt before leaving & I had been charged too much for 4 of the 6 items.
Advised the check out operator who then had to call a supervisor who I had to escort to each of the aisles where I had picked up these 4 items to show them the advertised price they then had to refund for all 4.
    No apology or explanation given:(

I'd like to add to the list as I've been overcharged many a time too- though I think it's likely in any store as no machine or person is perfect. Equally I can't get my head around those that seem to rate Lidl up there with 5 star restaurant food. I would put it on a par with just about every other supermarket.

And now I'll give it all of 5 minutes before the Lidl Police start to shout down every bad or poor experience because in their eyes Lidl can do no wrong and the only problem is the people who shop there and can't omit the 20 minute queues, countless out of stock (for days) shelves and over priced items- just like every other supermarket and food store, Lidl in my experience are really not so different and for me at least, the cost on the things I buy is not cheaper either.

If you've not purchased extremely good products from L & A at much better prices (and therefore better value for money) than the other supermarkets then you aren't really trying.

People just want to see L & A given fair treatment in forums like this. Aldi has been awarded Which Supermarket of the Year several times, and in the year they missed out to Waitrose, they got a People's award instead. I'm quite convinced that Which are being fair and rational in making such awards.

I've never queued for 20 minutes, ever, in any of maybe 25 L & A stores I've used. Not so Tesco & Asda, unfortunately (one of the reasons I started regularly shopping in Lidl in the first place).
... countless out of stock (for days) shelves...
    Not seen this.
    ... and over priced items...
Or this. Though I would say (as would many pro-L & A people) that L & A are not the places to buy branded goods, as a general observation. The whole point of shopping there is the excellence and diversity of the weird non-brands (really own-brands) that provide 95% of the products.
... the cost on the things I buy is not cheaper either.

When I go shopping in the main supermarkets, I'm staggered sometimes to see how much more expensive they are than L & A. In the product areas in which they are strong, I would say Lidl is around 30% cheaper than the mainstream, and Aldi probably as much as 40%. Their strong areas are: breakfast cereals, biscuits & confectionery, fresh fruit & veg, tins, deli & dairy, cleaning products.

    Here's a couple of examples:-

292645.jpg?v=5 Fat Free Natural Yogurt (500g)

    Aldi - 45p
    Waitrose - £1.20
    Asda - 90p
    Sainsbury's - £1.20
Tesco/Morrrison's - don't have an equivalent according to MySupermarket

    Torchon Ham
    Ocado - £1.87 per 100g
    Waitrose - £1.87 per 100g
    Aldi - 79.5p per 100g

    Nestle Shreddies
    Tesco - £2.49 for 500g
    Tesco own brand - £1.49 for 750g
    Sainsbury's own brand - £1.99 for 750g
    Aldi - 79p for 625g (equates to 94p for 750g)
