  • Use vinegar as fabric conditioner - it softens the clothes slightly and works really well on smells

I second the Dettol, just bought 12 from a certain online retailer as it in very expensive in store. Also run the wmachine without anything in regularly and dry outside as much as possible to avoid bacteria building up.

It might be the laundry detergent used. Some of the brands have added perfume and to me smell awful. I have a friend who passes on clothes to me who loves perfumed laundry. I find it takes , on average three washes on my nice unperfumed detergent to get rid of the perfume. Your hanging outside for a few days seems a more moneysaving alternative.
I wonder if vinegar might help dissolve the pong ? Hopefully someone will be along with more ideas soon.

I recently bought some Siansburys own brand washing powder and all my clothes now have a stench of a mixture of bubble gum and something else which I cannot define. There is not even a warning on the box telling me that it is "perfumed". Next time it is back to Tescos or Lidls.
  • I find stepping out of the clothes seems to freshen them up no end.
