Female worker, paid less than fellow employee

I'm looking for a bit of help/guidance.

I work in a predominantly male environment. Was employed 01/09/2014 as a technician. This was alongside 7 other male colleagues. Since then, I have realised that I do exactly the same job, to the letter, as a fellow male operator on 8k a year more.

Do I have a case? Will it matter that there are 7 other men on the same pay as me even though I do the same job as the operator?

Any advice given will be much appreciated.

So there are 8 of you on one pay level, both male and female and just one person who is on a different pay level?

Only one comparator is required and it could be that individual.

I agree on principle but the chances of proving that the other person is being paid for purely for their own gender is near impossible.

And the fact other members of staff are being paid the same makes it even more likely the employer could successfuly defend their decision.

But in reality there is far more to a claim than "he gets paid more than me".

There are 300 on the higher pay scale, 5 women and 295 men and then there are only 8 of us on the lower pay scale. I am the only woman on the lower pay scale. The got round it by changing the job title but the job description is exactly the same.

Surely you can see your sex is not the issue here? There are men at your pay level also.

You need to explain your reasoning - you can't claim simply because some men get paid more than you.

This is what I thought. The fact that some men are paid the same as me would have an issue, but a solicitor assured me that that's the not case. Thanks for confirming what I thought.
