Yet another yogurt question.

Hi,
Well I have just made my second batch of yogurt. First batch was smooth and creamy. This batch appears a lot thicker and lumpy (did use more skimmed milk powder though) Anyway I have strained it and the liquid that has come off it is thin, watery and yellowish. Is this normal:confused: or is the yogurt 'off'. Dont know if this makes sense, but would be grateful for your opinions. Thanks everyone.

  • Sounds fine to me. How does the yogurt taste?

The liquid is great in pancakes or bread.

Yep, I agree with Pen Pen (ooh just remembered I had a dream about penguins last night :D ) -anyway the liquid is supposed to be like that, apparently it's very good for you, full of beneficial enzymes. Use it in baking or add to smoothies.

To avoid lumps I use a small whisk to whisk in the dried milk with the starter yogurt, then still whisking I pour in the milk.

Do you think we were twins, separated at birth, reunited by a love of homemaking ;)

Back to the OP - jess - you could just stir in the liquid - it'll be fine.

Thank you both for replies and the tips. The yogurt tastes a bit more 'tangy' than last time, but o.k. Might have a go at making some scones with the liquid see if it improves them. I never have any luck with scones.
