Can I Do a Tax Return Right Now?

in Cutting tax
Hi
I'm probably owed quite a bit in tax, and really need the money back due to unemployment.
I finally managed to get through to HRMC, by phoning them at 0745 in the morning, and they told me in order to get the rebate I need to do a 'Self Assessment Tax Return.'
My last one was 2014/2015, and covered up until the end of January.
Apologies if this sounds a bit thick, but can I can do an online self assessment right now, that covers from the end of January to the present date?
Cheers

Self Assessment returns cover the tax year, April 6, year 1 - April 5, year 2. Your 2014/5 return covered until April 2015. You could not have submitted it until April 6, 2015 at the very earliest. If you submitted a return in January 2015 it was for the tax year 2013/4.
I think this, combined with previous posts, suggest you are somewhat confused about your tax position. I'd suggest a session with an accountant might be money well spent.0 -
Hi Agrinnall
Thanks for that. Yes I am getting very confused. Bogged down in various things going on at the same time at the moment.
I cannot afford an accountant (unemployed plus self employment did not actually make a profit.)
I think I really need to just take a step away from all the forms and endless unanswered calls to HMRC/Council Tax office.
I have done several self assessments in past (with no issue.) So I am going to return to this one tomorrow!
Cheers
