I have been off work ill for a few weeks and due to go back next week. The thing is I just lack motivation big time. I don't miss my job. I don't hate it, but don't particularly enjoy it either and neither do I feel part of the team or that I am valued.
I have looked about for another job but there isn't much I can apply for. I am starting a course soon and a new job probably wouldn't fit with the hours so I know it makes sense to stay.
I just need some words of wisdom to keep me going! Hopefully after my course ( its a year long) I will be qualified to look for something else but in the meantime how do I perk myself up?

what course are you doing?
Most people I know hate their jobs. I've DETESTED every job i've ever had.
Most of us live for the weekends, and then try to 'swtich off' during the weekdays. Litereally the ONLY think i tihnk about when i'm at work is the clock, and how much longer I have to wait until I get to go home.
Only exception is a friend who works for Linkedin and gets paid more in a week than I get in a month, and he spends a huge part of his day playing Fifa and pool at work in the office! lol0 -
Thanks pinpin. Yeah - I am yet to meet anyone who loves their job! I know a few who started off that way but it changes after a while! I know I shouldn't moan. I have a lot of freedom in my job and I am lucky to be employed. I know a lot who have it a lot worse! The thought of feeling like this for the next 30 years though is quite depressing....
I will be doing my CIPD qualifications to hopefully work in HR.0 -
Not words of wisdom I'm afraid, just an observation that many people who are at work feel exactly the same as you do. Basically stuck in a rut but without the motivation to get up and do something about it.
Really the only person who can do anything about it is you. You are probably correct to say that now isn't the best time to make the change if you are starting a course, but the course might help jolt you out of the rut.0 -
Not much to add on your current situation, but I am currently 10 months into my level 5 CIPD qualification! Its been hard to fit it in around a full time job and a casual job but I'm still on track!
Good Luck - hope you find something you enjoy at the end!0 -
I've just started my Level 3 CIPD - and am looking for HR roles as well as working full time, so I can definitely relate! Good luck with your studies, Fireflyaway and Kez 1983.

Everyone's doing this CIPD stuff!
Is it hard? What are the entry qualifications? Maybe it's something I could do?..... 0 -
I think the way to get through work is to give yourself something to look forwards to either short term or long term:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

I like my job very much - to be honest, I think life is too short to hate work! I've just finished my Level 7 CIPD and currently work in HR. CIPD is really hard - late nights, weekends and annual leave used for studying etc but it's certainly been worth it for me.Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

Thanks everyone and its encouraging to see others doing their CIPD - I'm quite excited now!
Yes - something to look forward to is a big plus. Might try and book a holiday so I know there is something nice coming.0 -
My job was/is so bad I used to cry in the toilets. I mentally 'check out' during the week and only perk up during the weekends. Life's too short and you shouldn't be in a job you hate but there are no jobs I can apply for at the moment and I'd rather have a horrible job than no job at all.
I'm doing an OU degree and like you, I hope to move on to something much more better once I graduate in another two years! That's what keeps me going along with small things like meeting a friend for dinner, hanging out with my family during the weekends and saving for my summer holiday. It's those little things that get me by.
Best of luck with your course. I really hope you're able to move on as soon as possible. x0
