Basic bank accounts & online banking

Hi
I'm finally trying to do something about my debts and bankruptcy is a strong possibility... I think I'm going to open a basic bank account anyway so that I can manage my finances better.
I know that the Barclays basic account is one of the recommended ones, but it is still the case that they don't allow online banking once you are bankrupt?
I don't have a Co-op locally and would really like to be able to do online banking.
Nationwide look good...
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks

For BR purposes, it's co_op or Barclays at the present time. Some people have reported being allowed online with Barclays as of a couple of months ago but I don't know what yge official stance is. Co-op definitely give online access. Don't tell them that you are considering BR though.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

Can I just say that you don't need a near by Co-op. You ring up for a pack and away you go.
You can go into the post office if you need to deposit any money. You can use any cashpoint to withdraw.
I am in my 4th year of living half way around the world now and haven't needed to go into a Co-op in all that time, even when back for a visit. When I was in the UK I can honestly say that I can count on one hand how many times I needed to go into a branch and I've had an account since 2006.

Co op do not offer a bank account now to anyone who is undischarged bankrupt, only Barclays and no on line banking0

Co-op haven't offered accounts to undischarged bankrupts for a few years now, hence the reason for setting up before BR and not mentioning you are considering BR.
The Co-op will keep the account open once the account has gone BR though, provided it was opened before.
Several people (undischarged) on this board have reported getting online access with Barclays from around June this year. You would have to check Barclay's terms & conditions though.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

I have had uninterrupted online banking with Barclays since the Spring, rang them up as I was worried it would be stopped and they said it was fine and to carry on.
Good luck wichever one you choose.

Barclays allow online banking but they claim your mobile banking maybe cut off, mine hasn't been cut off and a few of my friends still continue to use Barclays Mobile.0

Spot on. If you are yet to do the dead, go with a postal application for the co-op. My closest branch is 60 miles away and I've never actually visited it.
Be aware though that in my experience, the postal application took about three weeks to sort, but I have full mobile and internet banking. I think it's great!
Good luck0 -
Totally agree with Tigerfeet, nearly 6 years in and have never been in a branch, like TF I now live abroad and still use my Coop account perfectly well from 2000 miles away. This is still the ONLY account that guarantees online access whilst BR but as already said needs to be opened before you go BR.:pB&SC No. 298

With the co op they ask for oringinal copies of ID which they say they cant post back....not sure how true that was so i went to my nearest which was only 9 miles .
I got the online banking set up over the phone . Have had no problems so far.0
