New Job - Contract says Pay Increase After Probation

Hello Everyone,
I've been in my current job for several years, and am quite happy there. I've enjoyed a great deal of success, and during this period they've given me decent pay rises. My current Salary puts me just below the higher rate of income tax, though I don't think there's much more scope for progression or pay rises.
Recently, I was contacted by another company (larger, and more scope for progression), who had seen my details via a professional networking site.
In my interview, I said that in order to move, I'd want to be earning £10,000 more than I get in my current job.
The job offer (and contract) I've received state that during my probation, I'll be earning a salary just over halfway between my current salary and what I've asked for. It then goes on to say that my salary will increase to the figure I've asked for after my probation period.
Naively, I didn't question or try to negotiate around this. Is this normal practice, and should I be worried?
Thanks

Seems like a pretty good deal, as long as there is some sort of definition around how long the probation period is and what the criteria are to enable you to pass it.0
