Eating food from freezer after 6+ months - HELP

Options
I have found a cherry pie in freezer from M&S. It is a pastry type but my H says it cant be eaten as it went out of date in jan and even though it is in the freezer we cant eat it.
Is he right? I would be happy to eat it but he is putting me off it.

I also found some pureed fruit I had done for LO, approx 6 mths ago, is this ok to eat?

Thanks

If it is a deep freeze the stuff should be ok.

I quite often buy stuff with a close use by date and freeze it to eat at a later time.

I have rhubarb from last year in the freezer, and I haven't died yet from eating it!

Quality might be effected but shouldn't make you ill or anything.

I would say cook it and see what it's like. If it smells or tastes off then fling if not then enjoy. If he's not happy, have it all to yourself :D

Like it states there http://www.fsis.usda.gov/Fact_Sheets/Focus_On_Freezing/index.asp , guidance is for quality

    Length of Time
Because freezing keeps food safe almost indefinitely, recommended storage times are for quality only. Refer to the freezer storage chart at the end of this document, which lists optimum freezing times for best quality.

If a food is not listed on the chart, you may determine its quality after defrosting. First check the odor. Some foods will develop a rancid or off odor when frozen too long and should be discarded. Some may not look picture perfect or be of high enough quality to serve alone but may be edible; use them to make soups or stews. Cook raw food and if you like the taste and texture, use it.
One day I might be more organised...........

I eat stuff from the freezer that has been there much longer than 6 months. Never been ill & never had to throw anything away yet.

As with anything - try the sniff test first.

If it was frozen before the best before or use by date then I'd eat it. I generally consider that once its frozen time stands still *lol*
Well I've not been ill from something I've eaten from the freezer yet (and that's just a normal upright freezer!)
  • I agree with Vampgirl as long as it was frozen before the BB date then its fine i would have no problem eating it. infact it could be xmas and i would still eat it lol.
    Still Trying :o

I'd eat it :T Shove a slice of pie my way if OH won't have it

How old is LO? Possible problem there is that the flavour may have deteriorated, and he/she may be put off. Might just ditch that.
