I feel really daft asking but i'm new to twitter and i'm not sure i'm retweeting competitions correctly
How exactly do you retweet, i mean what button do you have to press?

To retweet, there is a little icon with two arrows on it in a rectangular shape. If you hover over it, you will see it says 'retweet'.
There is a tutorial here to entering competitions on twitter that may help you.
