Bank Account to improve credit?

Hi

After several years of struggling (and hiding my head in the sand) ive finally repaid all my debt. But due to the issues (and fear) i dont have a bank account (i have been using my building society savings account).

Ive just bought a house with my partner and now want to spend the nexct few years improving my credit rating as much as possible and i think the first step would be a bank account, but to be honest im a bit scared as i dont want to be laughed out of every branch.

So does anyone know of any accounts by spefic banks that would be good for me in my situation? Not looking for overdrafty facility etc just a bog standard acccount to help me on my way

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

  • dblfc, yes it may be a good way to start. Bank accounts offer much more than building societys anyway. Here is a thread (i know its on the bankruptcy board :o) http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=474254 that contains all he very basic of basic bank accounts. You many however be able to get a regular bank account but using one of these many you can work your way up (so to speak). Other than that i advise looking on a comparison site (moneysupermarket and the such) to see which bank overs the best interest rates compared to the money/credit that will be sat in your account ~ good luck and someone will be along soon with more information :D
