Is 'trade' paint that much better?

Our neighbours and ourselves have both painted the outside of our houses this year. Neighbours bought Leyland "trade" paint from B&M, we went to Johnstones decorating centre and bought hand mixed Leyland trade paint. Our neighbours needed 8 coats, we did ours in 2. For this reason I will now only purchase paint from a decorating centre. Yes ours did cost more, but for the time and labour saved I think it was well worth it. Also if you can speak to the manager they are very open to haggling with prices.

We used Dulux diamond Matt in the kitchen, wash coat for new plaster of cheap stuff then 1 coat of diamond Matt. When it dries its washable, dead Matt and like a plastic coat. For the dining room I had 2 tins of retail Dulux left over from a previous cancelled plan. It's had 2 coats over the plaster wash and still doesn't look right. I'm out of paint now so I'll buy the trade paint and just do it again. It's not as Matt and the kitchen looks much better.0

Hi, if u don't mind me asking, what is the finish line on diamond. Not sure what you mean by "plastic coat". We need to paint our hallway and am looking at diamond but I was hoping to get something that has slight sheen just to brighten up the hallway that much. I'm a DIY-er, and have recently discovered Leyland Trade paint, and I've been raving about it ever since.
I read the reviews of the usual suspects; Dulux, Crown and various DIY own brands, and all got slated, while Leyland got amazing write-ups, so I took the plunge and gave it a try.....I'll never buy anything else now.
The trade paint is thicker, covers smoother and more consistently, and gives a more professional looking finish. It almost covers in one coat, so the second one just finishes things off beautifully.0 -
I've used some of the Dulux trade paints - the white gloss is exceptional compared to the normal stuff, and I found the diamond matt emulsion gave really good opacity compared to their normal range (which is better still than the DIY shed own brand stuff).
Obviously the cost is higher to me as I'm a DIYer and don't get trade discount anywhere, but even so the time saving and ease of doing the job makes the extra cost worth it to me..Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
