Cost of Storage means I need to sell, downsize, declutter.

Help please!
I may be moving to work abroad and need to ready my house. Alternatively, I do need to redecorate at least one room and declutter. I'm almost shocked at how much I've collected in the space of 7 years. The cost of storage has meant that I'm determined to pare things down - minimalise, do the Kon thingy (sorry, I forget the term).
Anyway, I've started scanning my books and CDs (some go back over 30 years) to see what I could get for selling them - mostly fiction. I've read about an eBay app that you can take pictures of your sale items and upload to your eBay shop, but it seems a hassle having to go and post individual items.
I have a plan for my clothes (project 333)
I'll probably put down a loft floor to store some of my boxes, but will need to raise funds by selling existing items.

Does anyone have experience doing this type of thing? What apps/ methods worked best for you?
What do I do with my old used Video tapes?
I have also kept a lot of Reader Digest magazines, which I'm reluctant to simply toss.
Can you recommend a purchaser of 'vintage' book? (i.e. no bar code, or not recognised).
Thanks in advance.

  • You could try Facebook (think "Facebay"?) for selling - I have heard good things from friends, although that was for furniture or kitchen items.

I'm afraid VHS is dead technology so they are destined for the dump.

The Konmarie method isnt primarily about decluttering, it is about only keeping things that give you joy....which for some people could still mean ALOT of stuff.

join the decluttering threads on the old style money saving board. challenge yourself.

If you live in an urban area, try Gumtree or Facebook to flog your stuff - no fees (unlike ebay) and less detail required as buyers will come to collect and take a look. However a good photo will still help to attract buyers!

With things that don't seem worth selling but you are reluctant to throw out, try Freecycle or Freegle. Just list your item and someone will come to collect, with usually very fast turnover.
