TUPE and Salary

I need a bit of help with TUPE and not sure where I stand.
Here's the situation...
I work for company A and we are contracted to company B, I work on company B's site etc. The contract is coming to an end and I am being TUPE'd across to company B.
My T&Cs are being either matched of better with company B so I'm happy with that.
The grade I've been mapped to with company B, the bottom of the range pays £2000 more than what I currently earn. So the grade I will be on with company B, I'll be £2000 underpaid.
I've queried this with HR with both company A and B but getting numerous variations but basically say my salary will not change as "its protected by TUPE, so you wont be worse off"
Is this right? Or should I be bumped up to the bottom of the grade?

The salary you are on is what is protected. That is all they need to do - keep you on the same.
If you were to get an "increase" then it would be a diffeent job, and then ALL your TUPE protections fall, not just the one about salary. It might benefit you, or it might not - but equally it isn't a right.0
