O/S Daily Thursday 3rd September 2015

OS Daily Thread Monday 31st August This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy, dull and dreich, but dry.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was sausages, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight not sure but have loads of bacon and eggs, I could make cheese and bacon omelettes, HM coleslaw, with pots or buy a bag of chips, and side salad – I’ll see how my day goes.

Work yesterday wasn’t as busy as Tuesday but steady. I’m now on days’ off. I went to the garage and they have done something to the key fob – at the moment it seems ok, we’ll see.

I have all the normal chores to do today – washing machine is on, I did 2 loads yesterday and got it out on the line, the first load dried but the 2nd didn’t as I had to get it in as it started to rain before it was dry. Hope I can get it line dried today as I really don’t want to be using the TD yet.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

MM - Not a good day for you yesterday, hope today is better. You can catch up on Sunday afternoon if you don't get it before. I need to catch up on it later, just hoping no-one tells me anything today!

Well done on the weight loss dumpling!

Sad news tru - hope the other girls cheer up.

Judi - Sorry to hear of your Aunties passing.

A day of mixed emotions yesterday, DD hadn't heard anything from the Solicitor at 3. We went to Asd@ to get a bottle of something nice for one of the builders (it was his birthday) and I said she should phone to see if it was yes or no to getting the keys. Turned out that everything had just gone through so we nipped home, delivered the bottle, collected some things and went to get them.

DD is absolutely over the moon with her new flat, it has been 3 months of waiting. Gave lots of it a good clean, will finish off tonight after work. It has been empty for so long the toilets had dried up!

Anyway, not much done here, must get some housework done soon or we'll be drowning in dust. Builders have tiled the floor and put the shower screen in, hopefully they will start on the walls today.

Hope you all have a lovely day and are all well. Take care. XX

    Flying visit from me.
Hubby's on earlies this week so we are usually at work by 6:30 but he's been changed to late's today so goes in at 1 & finishes at 10, back on earlies tomorrow though.
Work is absolutely crazy, new staff, new machines, new boss, new students, new timetables, new caterers, everything is in turmoil, apart from the new boss who is doing a great job, thankfully!
    Time I set off.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Great news Camelot! I know it's been a frustrating time for both you and your DD. Congrats to her on her new home.

Yesterday was a lovely day, again very windy but very warm and sometimes actually hot. My delivery of plug plants arrived do I dealt with some of them and then took a load of them to a friend for his garden.

When I came back I was so happy to spot my red squirrel visitor in the back garden and also managed to get a few photos of it. I've posted them on the greenfingers board.

Finished off the planning too. First class was at six pm and there were five who turned up with two others joining next week. We had a really lovely two hours roaming around keyboard functions, exploring various icons and trying to get them to use more than one finger at a time to type. Got my list of what they wanted to learn so the planning document will change already.

Did one coat of varnish so will do a second one today.

Dumpling - congrats to you too, it's lovely to read that your efforts are paying off.

Judi - condolences on the passing of your aunt.

I have no plans for today though I'm debating with myself about trying out the jet wash at my local garage. I've never used one before but must have a go, my car is just filthy.

Lying here in bed I can see three or four swallows sitting on the phone wire just outside the window. They are twittering away like mad. They'll be gone soon unfortunately.

Right, off to start my day. I hope everyone has a good Thursday.
  • Morning one and all. What a dark start it was this morning when I finally gave up tossing and turning and decided to get up.

JUDI sorry about your Auntie and TRU sorry about Maisie Chick. MM I didn't see GBBO last night either but am hoping to watch it on Catch-Up before I hear who went. Well done DUMPLING you are doing so well.

Against my better judgement I joined the girls last night for our monthly meet up over a Carvery and a wine or three. Mr TA insisted I go even though I didn't feel too sociable. As it turned out there were only four of us last night, just the right number to have a chat to and offload my worries. So I was glad I went after all.

I have just got a pan of chicken broth on the go. I left all the pulses etc soaking overnight. I hate broth myself but Mr TA loves it and I'm hoping he will manage a bowlful at lunchtime. He is eating so little it's no wonder he feels weak and weary. We didn't go on our walk yesterday, despite it being a lovely day. Our village is on top of a hill so we have no nice flat walks unfortunately and I feel the uphill walk to the moorgate is too much for him.

We have the 3 DGDs for tea and sleepover. The eldest (now 11) starts "big school" tomorrow. The other 2 don't go back until Monday so we will have them all day tomorrow whilst DD is at work. I just hope it isn't too much for Mr TA, though he insists he'll be ok.

I have a shopping trip to do at some point today. Think it will just be Aldi, with maybe a quick trip into Iceland next door.

Have a good day all (((HUGS)))) to those in need. Take care xx

I am so pleased for your daughter :j

Mine moved back up north on Monday with her husband and they do not have internet yet so she is coming for breakfast, use of internet and a chat before a job interview later today.

I had to set bedside alarm as ir is not much of a welcome if I am still upstairs asleep!!!

Another is coming up around nine to meet a van to collect her bedroom furniture so looks like a busy morning.

Made fish pie last night and took it round to DD and SIL with another DD and we all had it for a late dinner and a good chat about her interview etc.

No idea what to make today but might go to local butcher for a family pack of meat. Most of the home frozen meat is lamb and one of is not keen on it.

    TA
I hope your husband is feeling a little stronger today.

    Hugs to all

  • Good morning everyone .blue skies here at the moment and I have my fingers crossed that they stay that way.It seems to happen that when the children go back to school the weather brightens up.

DGS Mikey starts his senior school this morning and I am looking forward to seeing what he thinks of it this afternoon when he gets home.I also have to take DGS Henry to the orthodontist for his check up later today.apart from that nothing to exciting ,my life will soon be back to normal when the other two boys go back to school tomorrow and my days will be a bit more free.

camelot I bet your DD is so pleased after her wait to get the keys, great feeling isnn't it when things start to come together

T/A I hope the broth will tempt his appetite a bit

Tomorrow I have to drive DGS Ben and his g/f Katie up to Stanstead airport as they are off to Budapest for a weeks holiday courtesy of her parents.

We went to get him some Forints to spend yesterday and his wallet seems full with 40.000 odd of them (about £100.00)

Bless him he is the permanately broke student, and to have all these notes crammed into his wallet made him feel like a millionaire. He has been looking up different places to go to when out there, and trying to find things to say in Hungarian :) Lots of fun with him yesterday trying to say things like How much !! and can I have a beer please ,you know all the useful things you have to know when your 19 and on holiday for the first time with your young lady as opposed to when your with your parents :):):)

Still they are sensible youngsters and fingers crossed they will be safe and well :):):)
Right time for a cuppa and some breakfast
    Cheers chums

camelot At last! I hope your daughter's very happy there x

The shopping's being delivered between 11-12 so I'll have to make sure I'm back by then. Mum has a new laptop, she doesn't know how to save her photos and documents from the old one so she's dropped both laptops here, I'm going to sort them out today.

Not sure what else I'm doing, I woke up feeling worn out. I have a headache and earache, I've taken painkillers so I'll see how I feel when they've kicked in. A shower usually helps me feel a bit better, just waiting for the last of the trus to finish in the bathroom then it's all mine :D

    Hi everyone,

So sorry for your loss Judi.

Well done on the weight loss dumpling.

I'm on the last table runner for DD's wedding celebration - these things are always more work than you think they will be aren't they. If I'd known how much work they would be I'd still have done them though because I think they are going to look spectacular.

I've spent a fortune on paint pots for our living room, I'm fed up with the neutral walls and want to inject a colour but we want to keep the one wall that is pale duck egg blue and the curtains so we need a colour that will tone with them. I've found a green that I like, DH isn't so keen but his colour sense isn't good, the question is am I brave enough to insist on it, in case it's a disaster. Anyone got any ideas on a colour?

DD and her DH got back from their mini-moon last night and she's going in to work for half days for the first time in about eight weeks. She's so much better that I think she'll cope ok.

    Have a good day.
  • Morning,((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one, especially Judi, sorry to hear of your loss.

Well I did my usual trick this morning, wide awake at 6am, then fell asleep and slept through until OH woke me with my breakfast. He has gone out to the garden, I am just drinking my second mug of coffee before I get up.

Heavy rain yesterday afternoon, so it was too wet to do the slabs chap coming back after lunch. I lit a small fire to test the grate, we are going to need some fire brick to make the grate a bit smaller. The grate its self is going to take some getting used to. Will clear it out this morning and re-lay the fire.

No plans for today, just take it as it comes.
