EEC Solar

Hi

I am wondering on your experiences as I am having solar panel quotes.

The company EEC seem to be very keen on my business and I agreed for a site survey but wasn't so confident after the surveyor finished. I decided I would not sign as I would need time to consider what he suggested as it was different to the two previous quotes I had from people visiting.

The guy left and obviously rang his office as they were on the phone to me within 2 minutes of him leaving asking why I had not signed. The point that annoyed me was the phone advisor said the guy shouldn't have left my home until he called to discuss my issues.

This sounds to me like high pressure sales and I am not pleased with this practice.

Has anyone else had this sort of pressure from EEC to sign up or from another company?

Thanks

    Hello wheel_mouse, and welcome.

There is some information on the way representatives should act in the PV FAQs:

    13. Basic consumer advice and protection.

Fuller advice can be found in the RECC document (Renewable Energy Consumer Code). I think you'll be interested in section 5 'pre-sales activities'.

If you're not happy that the company has acted properly then you should contact RECC and raise your concerns.

The PV'ers on here have tried hard to give folk advice and support on systems and prices, so pressured sales that often result in higher prices are held in contempt.

Regarding PV in general, are you happy with the information you have so far? How are your prices going? If you ask on here for suggestions and opinions then you'll certainly get some! Just post some rough information and go from there.

  • I had a quote from EEC 3 months ago (Manchester area). I didn't experience any high pressure sales tactics & the guy who came to survey seemed fairly genuine. However they were expensive.

They quoted £6200 for a basic 4kwh system, ended up paying £5250 for a 4.96kwh system with a different firm.

I presume you mean that the EEC quote was higher than your other quotes. If so, then of course you shouldn't have signed up for them. OTOH, did you mean that the kit they were offering was different to that from others so you just needed time to consider how it compared - and again you were absolutely right to tell salesman you needed time for that process.

I would have reminded the phone guy that it was me who decided when visitors should or shouldn't leave my house and that if (and only if) I needed more advice I'd ask for it. And it doesn't sound very professional of the phone advisor to tell you that he thought his colleague had done anything wrong - he should just have tried to find out what your reservations were and what he could do to help.

  • Hi

The price is not the issue, it was the difference in the front and back split that was different.

I have had 4 quotes for 4kw across front and back.

    Quotes from 5400 to 8000.

I have decided I will not tolerate the way I was spoken to and pushed into signing yesterday so will not sign with EEC.

Hi WM. Have you considered going bigger than 4kWp, perhaps 2.5kWp or 3kWp on both rooves, if there is room?

  • Hi

I budgeted £5,500 for a system so the 4 kW fits the budget. I could get more panels on the front however it isn't the best for sunlight.
I felt it best to pack the back aspect then just get a bit on the front for later sunlight.

I am happy with the general arrangements, just wondered if people had issues with EEC and the borderline harassment that I have experienced. The above link is an eye opener and I will need to re read it in some detail.

    Thanks
  • I think I had a call from the same outfit today. Very pushy young chap, didn't listen to me at all (talked over me). I told him straight away that I wasn't interested in having a survey done because I didn't like the style of the sales call. He pretended to be upset that I thought his call was sales. In the end he just wasted his time and I smiled.

Hmnn, looks to me like someone is simply trying to discredit ECC, and using two logons to do it. MSE are not pleased with this practice.
It may look like that to a 'MoneySaving Newbie' but MSE have certain safeguards in place to detect such practices and prevent them from spoiling the forum for the rest of us. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

It's basically a case of giving an 'AE' enough rope and waiting till he/she hangs themselves :D
