A simple question: If you don't want to take risks, then why are you blase about the risk of running out of money?

If we assume that your £12,000 a year spending needs go up by 2.5% a year and you earn 1% per annum interest (you don't want to take the risk of using overly optimistic assumptions, after all) then your money will have run out after 27 years. Sure, you might be dead by then, but equally you might not be. By posting on here, asking intelligent questions and using good grammar you've already sat down on the wrong side of the UK average life expectancy, from a longevity risk point of view.

Are you happy to sit there in your eighties watching your pension fund dwindle under £50,000 and hoping the Grim Reaper comes before it runs out? Maybe you are, it just seems a bit strange to me.

None of this is answering the question you asked, but I'm not going to answer your question because investing a £400k pension in cash is not something I would tell anyone to do.
