I'm having a new bathroom put in at the moment (the old one is out, the new one will go in when the sun stops shining and they stop doing the outside work). One of the things they will be doing is putting loft insulation round the bath so that it retains the heat for longer. As the bath is VAST this is very necessary!

I suggested this to the plumber when he had the side of the bath off to install a new shower but he said not to do it as it would create too much condensation. I don't know who is right, but it made sense to me to put it in. However, I don't use the bath and neither does my lodger so it wasn't really an issue.

I do agree that sometimes it's really worth buying the best one can afford - beds, combination oven, dyson animal, shed etc. come to mind. First though for smaller items I will patiently wait for the desired object to come up at a car boot sale or maybe through freecycle. It's simply amazing how much can be bought for just pounds or pence.

    Hello all,

Ivyleaf I am so glad that you are feeling much better. See you soon.

Re. solar panels, unfortunately we weren't able to have them installed when it would have been worthwhile because we are in a conservation area. Now that other people in our position have appealed and won, we could put them in, but it is no longer worth it, we are too old to make them pay and the subsidies are no longer good enough to justify the initial cost.

I am here to say goodbye, won't be posting for a while as am off on my hols!

See you in a couple of weeks.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    :) Enjoy your holibobs, Caterina.

Just quickly mentioning that the solar panel+conservation area combo isn't an automatic no-no. Depending on where the panels are on the building and where that elevation is in relation to the road. You can visit https://www.planningportal.gov.uk for more info or talk to your local council's planning department.

  • Have you thought about being assessed for an electric bath seat via Occupational Therapy
  • because of not having much strength in my right arm and slight mobility problems I had a walking shower fitted a couple of years ago when I had my bathroom refitted, I also have a seat in the shower which is great As I normally showered when I had my old bathroom I really didn't miss the bath at all, plus itcut my water bills down as well.I too refuse to be cold.My joints won't work very well if I get toocold anyway, but I have found if I put the central heating on for an hour as and when needed I don't seem touseit as much as I did.My combined heating and electric standing order per month is £44 which I think is reasonable and I had a rebate in March as I was in credit, growing up with restrictions of coal etc in the 1950s I have always said I would rather be warm, and as yet have never gone hungry either :):)
Hope you have a good holiday Caterina

Thanks, but I don't think I'd qualify as I am able to have a shower using the shower mixer tap :) When we can afford it we're going to have the bathroom re-done and a walk-in shower installed. Not sure when that'll be, mind you :D

I have tried kittie's idea of turning over in the water and getting up/down on hands and knees (I used to do that when I was pregnant!), but my knees are too painful to kneel on these days. I see people far older than me kneeling down in church, and wonder how they manage it!

Though I do need to lose weight; I'm sure that would help the situation.

ETA Nice to see you Marie! How are things with you? I hope Ulick is behaving himself :D
  • Knees ......lol.

I know this is digressing but ive found glucosamine does make a difference but I have also had good results with red krill oil capsules, plus a daily slathering of voltarol 12 HR gel. This combination works for me. I can now kneel down again.:D

Like you I do need to lose some weight. Ive lost 8 lbs recently, still got a long way to,go,though.

I read somewhere that each 1lb of extra weight was the equivalent of 4 lbs pressure on the joints.

    Makes you think......

    It certainly does!

I haven't yet tried Glucosamine, haven't thought of it for some reason. I do take Flaxseed oil, and that seems to help with general stiffness. I'll give the Voltarol a try though, thanks :) They are fine most of the time, it's just when I want to kneel or squat. I can't get down to clean the oven either. It's not in a good state :o
