O/S Daily Wednesday 2nd September 2015

OS Daily Thread Monday 31st August This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy but looks like we may get some sunshine, we’ll see.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was pork chops, new pots, veg and gravy, ice cream for those that wanted some. Tonight will be sausages, mash, veg and onion gravy.

Stopped off on the way home last night to get some fresh food to last until I do a proper shop on Friday, and boys emptied the car for me when I went out to put my car away the alarm went off and then we couldn’t stop it but eventually did so, so I’m taking it to the garage after work today for them to have a quick look. I haven’t had a problem with it at all until then but I think the battery in the fob needs replacing. Or they find out what the problem is. Hoping the garage can sort the problem for me.

Work yesterday was very busy but it was the 1st of the month and we’d had a bank holiday, hoping today will be less so. Only working until lunchtime then going straight to the garage.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

    Belated happy birthday Rosyred!

Today is the day DD shouldget the keys to her new flat. Fingers crossed please as I don't think I could cope if she is let down again.

Weather looks ok so far, got washing dried outside yesterday, will probably put some out in a bit.

Builders had problems with the shower tray yesterday so are a bit behind, best having these problems now rather than when it's all tiled. Have to pick a toilet today, really can't get excited over a loo, I'll tell him to just get one and I will be ok about it. It's just a toilet!

Off for another busy day at work - I am now training someone to do the job I am doing at the moment and it's not my job. Very frustrating!

    Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

The sky outside is a mixture of bright red and a shade of baby blue, most odd. I have no idea what it will bring.

Yesterday turned out sunny and windy so I got the living room rugs washed and out on the line. Then I dusted and vacuumed downstairs, including the kitchen and utility room and then did upstairs too.

I went into town to buy some clear varnish to use in the bathroom. There's a wooden ledge above the sink which needs some protection. I also bought some cup hooks to use for a wall hanging I was given ages ago and which is still not hanging up.

I planted the soaked peas in an old enamel pie dish so fingers crossed they grow. Did my planning, well most of it at least, and then about 7.00pm decided to mow the lawn. I thought the odds of having two dry days in a row were very slim so set too. After that I deserved a glass of wine. :o

This morning I'll finish off the planning and do the varnishing. There's egg mayo for breakfast which I bought to eat at mum's and then didn't, then it'll be something with salad later on.

    Good vibes to everyone.
  • Good morning chums, strange yellow light in the sky :) could be the sun,so much rain lately I'd forgotten what it looked like :)

Our team won another bottle of vino last night at quiz and there is enough in stock now for us all to have a bottle a piece :)

While ther we were talking about things that have disappeared over the last few years .
Does anyone remember the bag-wash van that used to come around.Very useful for sending off a big bag of washing to be done and dried in the early 1960s before a lot of people managed to get washing machines of their own .I can remember paying out around 5/- for a load (25p). Handy if you wanted to wash sheets, or in my case candlewick bedspreads, were a nightmare to wash and dry when my OH and I lived in a small flat in London.Don't know if it was country wide or not,but quite normal in London.

Beats carting it to the lauderette as well.I hated that as it was so boring just sitting there watching your wash going round.

No 'service washes ' in those days 2/6d in the local Bendrix shop ,then another couple of shillings to bung it in the big dryers.

Also the local 'van that came around with groceries, handy if you ran out of stuff.

But back then there were fewer supermarkets around and large shopping trips were not the norm.
No presincts either to spend hours walking around, more street markets though than today.

I do miss the street markets now Our local weekly one vanished about 5 years ago.I loved buying stuff off the stalls especially fruit and veg.Still thats 'progress' I suppose
have a good day everyone whatever you are doing
    Cheers

  • Morning all. It's lovely at the minute but rain forecast for later unfortunately.

DD safely back from the IOW. Got a text at 9.00 p.m. to say they were home at last - shattered! It's a long drive with 3 girls in the back asking if they are nearly home every 5 mins!

I've not even seen them all yet but I already have a request to shorten the eldest's new school trousers, purchased in Cowes and way too long! She starts big school on Friday and, as usual, DD is always last minute with everything! They are calling up this afternoon so it will be lovely to see them all again - it's been a long 2 weeks & 4 days without seeing them!

We did our repeat walk up to the Moorgate yesterday but it seemed to really tire Mr TA out and he fell asleep on the sofa when we got back, Not such a good view of the 3 Peaks this time as they were shrouded in black cloud. The sun was shining on us however, so we sat on the wall again and watched the swallows gathering on the lines down to the farm. They'll soon be leaving us, sadly, for warmer climes.

Have a good day all ((((HUGS)))))) if you need them and take care xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a beautiful sunny morning here and I managed to get a bit more sleep than usual so I feel good. Hubby has gone off to work quite cheerfully and the girls are still in bed though they will all get a rude awakening in an hour when the grandchildren come over :D.

I've made myself a cooked breakfast already and have a pan of soup cooking for lunch. The washing is up to date bar a few towels and the house is quite tidy for a change :).

My appointment with the psychiatrist went much much better than usual. I managed to stay positive and kept calm and upbeat. I don't have to see her again for another 6 months which is great. My CMHT lady will be coming to see me next week as well which is good as I thought I had been abandoned by them. Apparently they thought to leave me over the summer holidays because the girls are home but it would have been nice to have told me this!

My super duper talking scales told me I have lost another 4lb this week. I am so pleased as I am really hoping to lose a lot and be able to get out walking again. I saw the Hairy Biker's new show last night and they were in Poland. It was so beautiful there I would love to go and see it, but obviously I need to tackle a few issues. There are so many places I long to visit so it will be my inspiration to carry on losing weight and getting healthier.

Well that's all from me for now. Hope your DD gets her keys today Camelot, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning :hello:

Maisie Chick died last night  I went out at teatime to give the chickens some corn, she was eating with the others as normal. I went back down when it was dark to lock them in for the night, she'd died in her sleep. Thankfully she wasn't in pain (they don't eat when they're ill or in pain). The other girls are very quiet this morning

We have a new isolator tap on the water pipe to the shower, shame it's high up (the only place it would go) – I can't reach it so have to use a small stepladder :D No doubt I'll be moaning about the hassle of turning it on and off in a couple of days, lol.

I'm doing an online shop today. I'm tempted to hide some of it – I buy enough to last so I don't have to do it every week but the others just see all this food and fancy all of it at once. Morrisons have started a monthly payment thing (£2.50 I think?) and it covers all deliveries, I'll look into that.

I was up at 5am so have got most jobs out of the way already. I just need to dust downstairs, hang one more load of washing out and repot my coriander. Crochet and my recorded programs it is then :D

  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

I keep getting that foul new page when I try to log in, blessed thing does not recognise my name or password either. Why can't they leave things alone!!!!!!GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Loaf on, OH has decided he prefers ciabbta to ordinary white bread.

M left his kit here yesterday, found it on to of the dustbin this morning, shows we live in a village, had it been left there in town in clear view of the road it would have disappeared. He is coming back later anyway to replace the slabs.

I have a whirly full of laundry out, rain is forecast for later so fingers crossed it dries before it rains, otherwise its the dryer.

OH has just returned from getting more manure for the garden. They are getting the heap moved this weekend but the stable chap has promised they will leave the middle of the heap at the side for OH to get more. He says the car stinks, which means what he has got this morning is fresh and will have to be stacked. He has an appointment at the dentist this afternoon to get his plate adjusted.

Time for morning tea, also need to make a cake of some description.

I am so sorry about your auntie. It must have been such a shock.

Youngest dd is out with friends and middle dd, older dd and son in law are coming for a meal tonight. Defrosted some fish and prawns and planning on making a huge fish pie.

Took the washing in twice today as it started to rain heavily but the garden got tidied up before the rain fortunately. Need to start to prepare the fish pie for later then have a nice long shower in peace before everyone arrives.

Managed a quick trip out in hooded jacket in rain to get cheese, milk and potatoes.

    Hugs to all.
