  • But is it possible to buy not so expensive ones?
  • Colored gemstones such as blue sapphires and emeralds are brilliant substitute for diamonds. They are highly in trend because of their uniqueness and beauty. If she is interested in a non-diamond ring, you may look online for remarkable options in that budget. I usually buy online and more comfortable with that.

I would suggest angara.com, gemvara.com and brilliabtearth.com. They have amazing collection of diamond and colored gemstone rings, and customize as per your desire. My first anniversary ring is an emerald and diamond halo from Angara. I love it.

I have no idea of Hatton jewelers as I don't feel comfortable sitting in middle of beautiful jewelry that is beyond my pocket limits.
  • Hi, I proposed her last year. Don’t worry about your budget. But if you go to any of the chain jewelry store, most probably you won’t get what you needed in that budget.I got mine while we were still in Canada.I got a customized ring for her from wholesale store for diamond jewelry,Phera diamonds . I selected a stone and design and you can change the carat according to your budget. Even i selected white gold for the band.
  • I definitely would start searching for the ring online. It will save you a lot of time and money.
    having fun saving on everything:j

Are you aware that this thread is almost a year old?
I'm sure the posters asking for advice will have already bought rings by now.
  • £700 is a perfectly reasonable budget for a diamond engagement ring. Sure, you can spend thousands, but 'traditions' about spending a month or two's salary were concocted by diamond sellers and should be ignored as marketing guff.

Yes, you will be pretty limited for choice in Hatton Garden. I had a similar experience with a similar budget. There are certainly good prices there, but they mostly offer the higher grade and larger carat diamonds which cost a bit more. Personally I found the experience a bit intimidating, but people say that you can haggle with so many retailers in one road.

If you look online, you will have loads of choice, but then you won't have the easy returns option or easy resizing. Your money won't go as far with a high street jeweller, but if you are willing to wait for a sale or look out for a decent discount code then they aren't too far off the online prices.

If you go down the online route then for a £700 budget it will be a question of balancing quality and weight (carat) of the diamond. You could either get a low grade larger sized diamond (perhaps a half carat from somewhere like Amazon) or a higher grade smaller carat diamond (perhaps a 0.20 carat if you went for something with a decent clarity and colour. I would personally go for something in the middle, but it will depend on whether you think the recipient would prefer something small and delicate or a larger diamond. The smallest diamond I would want to buy is 0.25 carat, but everyone is different.

If you wanted something really high quality and a large size then your budget would go a long long way in the second hand market (perhaps a ring which sold for £2000 or £3000 originally) but a lot of people are not keen on used jewellery.

    Good luck!

Why does it matter that this is an old thread? Anyone else in this predicament will search and find this thread so it may not help the OP, but could help someone.
