Does anyone have wooden shutters instead of curtains?

Options
I'm thinking of getting wooden shutters throughout our new house instead of curtains because I wanted to keep the house low allergy. It's just occurred to me though that curtains might be warmer? Does anyone have shutters? Do they keep a room warm?

well-fitted shutters on properly insulated windows would probably do just as good (if not better) job than curtains..
Had them in Italy, but not as cold there so not sure how much warmth they'd give.
A nice idea though, definitely low allergy!

I had them fitted 2 years ago.. and they keep more heat in than curtains. :money:
Easy to wipe down and keep clean.

I have the wide adjustable slats and a pair of shutters per window, in off white. Open wide to clean the window, and the slats can be tilted either way to filter light into the room.

    They are worth every penny!!:T:T

We have internal wooden shutters in the bedrooms which do a great job of shutting out the light and keep the heat in but also have curtains too but only close them when its really cold.

We have very deep window sills as our cottage walls are 3-4 ft thick so they fold back neatly in the window recess

I used to work nights so they were great on sleep days as they helped with soundproofing too

Not shutters, but we have venetian blinds (cream wood effect) with no curtains (dogs are so hairy, it's one less thing to worry about, ditto the leather sofa!). Curtains probably would keep more heat in, but we're not really cold in the house and not spending a fortune on heating, so not sure the difference would be huge in a regular double glazed house. Definitely needed thick (double lined) curtains in our previous house with its original sash windows though!
