Inspired by this thread today I've

    1. Sorted DD clothes to work out what she will need for winter.
    2. Looked through my vest tops and DH T-shirts to decide what will go underneath winter clothes
    3. Made a list of jams, pickles etc that I want to make.
    4. Written on the calender what weekends I want to make my X-mas cake and pudding.
    5. Had a chat with DH about sorting out the lounge so we can get a new fuel effcient wood burner, and also replacing the guttering outside to prevent dampness in the walls.
Sorting my life out one day at a time

its mostly a case of getting the duvet out to put underneath the sheets to make the bed warmer,

I always have a duvet under my bottom sheet as not only is it warmer in winter its softer to sleep on if the mattress is hard and for those for haven't tried it yet a single bed duvet fits a 4'6" DB exactly.

I have to confess to turning my electric underblanket on twice this week!:o :D I suffer from the cold and cant get into a cold bed in fact I always take my hot water bottle on holiday with me!;)

  • I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but in anticipation of winter I thought I would mention the warmfront grants. If you are on any kind of benefit (incapacity, DLA, attendance, child tax credit etc) then you may qualify for a warmfront grant. They come out to your house and survey it and tell you what you need. I got cavity wall insulation, draftproofing, loft insulation, loads of energy saving lightbulbs and I WOULD have got a new boiler except that I had bought one a few months ago. They wouldn't reimburse me because the work has to be done by their installers and suppliers - could have saved myself nearly £3,000! I was still well pleased with what I did get though. My friend DID get a new boiler and she and her husband both work, but she is waiting for a new Knee so gets mobility allowance. Sorry if you all know about this already. Web site is http://www.warmfront.co.uk

I was looking around awhile ago for the cheapest place for le parfait jars, and Lakeland was the cheapest I found (and if there's one near you, you can save on shipping!) They only have the 500ml and 1litre though, not sure if they have a better selection in the store.

    Le Parfait jars at Lakeland

Lakeland are great if you want 1 or 2, but I tend to buy them by the 3 dozen:D

Lakeland sell them in boxes of 6 :). I was wondering if they're cheaper to buy in France, anyone know?

Hapless, do you do proper canning with yours (i.e. in a steriliser) or just to store dry goods etc?

I tend to use the le parfait for pickling, storing pasta and rice, chutneys etc.
Other stuff I jam or freeze.

Oh, what a great thread! just the right mood for this weather! :j

I'm making some jam, marmalade and chutney, maybe do a few jars of lemon curd and some pickled onions and beetroot too.

I'm well stocked up on candles, matches and batteries and my candle stove, wind up radio and wind up torches are at the ready.

I've a pile of fabric ready for my winter projects - patchwork and a rag rug. also supplies ready for several craft projects.

I'm going to reread this thread and keep an eye out for other suggestions. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
