Incorrect tax code - now corrected

I pointed out to my other half that his tax code had not updated from last year's to the new 1060L tax code for this year. He phoned HMRC last month who confirmed his tax code was wrong and put the wheels in motion to correct it. His tax code has now been updated and is correct as of this month meaning he was paying too much tax for the last 4 months.
What we are now wondering is how does he go about getting this amount back? Does he have to wait until the end of the tax year?
I don't think HMRC mentioned anything about when he would get the money back and his wage slip this month doesn't appear to include it.

He should get it back in the first pay packet with the new code. Each pay period you pay the tax that is owed to date less the tax that has been paid to date so a change of tax code will recalculate the tax owed to date. What is the tax code on his latest pay slip including all numbers and letters ?0

Thanks, his tax code has went from 1006L to 1066L (he gets uniform allowance). So he can expect to get it back next month?0

He should have got it back this month. It would be a refund of £40 so are you sure his tax is not £50 less than last month ? It will not show up as a refund as it will just come as part of the overall tax calculation.0

We've checked and he's paid the correct amount of tax this month so no "refund" that way. He's going to give HMRC a call to see if they can work it out.0

Is the tax code on his latest payslip WK1 or cumulative?0 -
It wouldn't be marked 'refund' the figure would just be adjusted and would pay less tax than he had done the month before.
Check that before he rings HMRCmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
