I have a rather expensive folding bike which I have decided to use to ride to the local gym. I do lock it up, bit am getting wary now with the nights getting darker. Just wondering the best way to lock it up and the best locks for this type of bike.

U-lock...and a chain with a big padlock. A determined thief will get through a chain or the padlock and the U-lock you just need to make it as difficult as possible. I'd also think about installing some way of tracking it if it were stolen but that can be quite expensive. At the very least engrave the bike with personal identifiers and making it look ugly puts thieves off too.
You should spend no less than 10% of the bike's value on security.:footie:

Why not fold it and take it in with you? Isn't that the major point of having a folding bike? It's only numbers.0

Marco.. the gym wouldn't allow me to take the bike in folded or unfolded. So that's a no go.
HappyMJ..I will check out the lock system you suggested. I'll also look at getting the bike engraved. Didn't the Police used to offer a service like this?0 -
If you put it into a zipped canvas bag with a handle, how are they going to know any different?"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

I saw a few coppers at an anti-bike-theft stall a while back. I too thought they would etch my bike, but instead they recorded the frame number (embossed onto the bottom bracket) and put a tiny sticker on the frame saying that the bike is traceable.
I think you can sign up online at https://www.immobilise.com/
P.S. I hope you don't use the exercise bikes at the gym! That wouldn't be very MSE! :-D0 -
Apparently thieves go armed to steal bikes with either a chain lock or a U lock, rarely taking the tools to cut both, so I use both, one through the front wheel and one through the back wheel, the rear wheel also has an axa lock fitted.
You can also buy trackers that alert you if someone moves your bike.0 -
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I don't use the exercise bikes lol. My warm up and cool down are done on my way to the gym and back home again.0 -

If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
