To pay for postage on a pre-paid return or not?

This is probably in the wrong spot but i've really no idea where this should go.
Story short, i bought a phone from Samsung which is getting returned.
They've given me a pre-paid postage label. I said because of the nature of the item & the value (£225) should i not pay for postage such as recorded or special?
I got an English person on the phone so they would've understood this.
They told me no there's no need. The postage is paid for & all i need to do is obtain proof of postage.
But i can't help but think if it goes missing in the post then i'll not be covered & will be without phone & refund.
I printed off http://www.royalmail.com/sites/default/files/Bulk_Certificate_Posting_Standard.pdf for the post office to stamp.
Should i also get postage recorded? I don't know - but Samsung said there's no need. So not quite sure what to do here.

I am no expert but if it were me I would pay for recorded delivery, ok it will cost me but for my peace of mind and the cover if it went missing would out way the cost of returning it.
Like I say that would me my choice as I like to sleep knowing I have covered all bases.0 -

The maximum compensation for Recorded Delivery (now known as 'Signed For') is £50.00.
Therefore that service is definitely not appropriate.0 -
I would pay for special delivery if only for my own piece of mind0

Royal Mail are Samsung's chosen agent/courier and as such it's their problem if it goes missing once you place it in RM's hands. Just make sure you get a proof of posting receipt and keep it somewhere safe until you know Samsung have got it.0

That's what I thought foxtrot. Especially as I asked them about it & if it came to it any recording would prove that (unless the recording went 'missing').
But also I can't help but think that it's come back as - well you should've taken appropriate cover so it's your fault, not ours. We never said don't pay for cover.0 -
Agree with #5.
RM will be transporting the item for them, not you. If the parcel goes missing then they've failed to supply them with the service you paid for. Your liability would end once their supplier has taken receipt of the goods.
Proof of postage is vital though!
Don't know how pre-paid works, but perhaps their pre-paid label already covers expensive goods0 -
I have to take Samsung items to the PO quite often for work and it has always been special delivery pre paid. They ask you the value of the item while they are booking it in at the PO and then give a receipt to show it has been sent.0

Getting proof of delivery for the small extra cost is the sensible thing to do. The law states that the reasonable costs of returns should be with the seller for faulty goods but any upgrades to the delivery should be with the sender, getting the proof of delivery falls into that category.0 -

While I agree with what you say, if the item went missing I would still have the proof that I had posted it and had a record of posting and would think that the onus would be on the company as they had supplied a pre paid return to cover for the full cost of the item.
If I was returning the item without the pre pay I would pay to cover the value of the item myself as better safe than sorry.0 -

Royal Mail Signed For® costs £1.10 over normal 1st or 2nd class post but offers nothing more than a free Certificate of Posting would in the OP's scenario. If I was returning the item without the pre pay I would pay to cover the value of the item myself as better safe than sorry.0
