Foundation for oily skin?

Options
As the title says, I'm in desperate need of a good foundation for oily skin. I'm being bridesmaid for a friend in a few months time and need to find something that will stay put all day as I might not have time to go and add powder etc if I get a bit shiny.
I've tried various primers and am currently using Smashbox primer which does help a little, but need to get a good foundation too.
Any recommendations for good foundations for oily skin would be much appreciated, I'm currently using Rimmel (or however it's spelled!) bb cream which is supposedly oil free but still makes me quite oily.
I don't mind splashing out a bit more money for a product that will work well, I'm open to any suggestions really!

    Have you tried Bare Minerals?
    ally.
  • Double Wear by Estee Lauder is fantastic and keeps me matte most of the day. However, I do find it makes my skin look a bit more mature even though I'm only in my 30s, it seems to show up every single fine line.

Colourstay by Revlon is a cheaper alternative.

I've not tried Bare Minerals but am out shopping in a few weeks so may well get them to try it on me :)
  • I have extremely oily combination skin, so my chin nose and forehead are terrible.

Bare minerals even with the primer will not stay on all day, it's a great product and I use it as its gentle on my skin and lighter than normal foundation.

If I need something to stay on longer as I am out for the day or a special occasion Estee Lauder double wear is great, unfortunately even with a primer it will still get oily, but out of all of the foundations I have tried and I have tried most of them it is the longest lasting.

I would take a powder compact with you or blotting sheets though just incase.
  • I use Boots No. 7 Stay Matte (I think that's what it's called) It's really good and I don't need to put powder on top and that seems to last all day, I don't always use a primer but when I do it does seem to stay longer. The primer I got is another Boots one and is so soft and silky (sounds werid I know but it's good) sometimes I just use moisterizer but would probably advise agaisnt this as it can make your skin look oily. However there is a new trend called "strobing" that is like dewy skin so maybe have a look at doing something like that?
Try Youtube, I watch loads of videos on there and find out some really good hints and tips and "hacks" good luck :D

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll have a look at them all in Boots this weekend.
Is Bare Minerals a liquid foundation or does it only come as a powder?
  • It's a mineral. I actually prefer Boots no 7 mineral as I think it has better staying power. I do night shifts in a very hot building and it's still there in the morning!

As an aside watch out for anything with "light reflecting pigments" as when you are photographed with a flash you could look like a ghost! YSL touch !clat gave me panda eyes. Do a camera test before the big fay just in case.
Mineral powder foundation is great if you don't wear much make up as it feels really light on the skin. I've tried Bare Minerals which is ok, I prefer Lily Lolo but you need to order this on line. I would also recommend a thin layer of Milk of Magnesia on your T zone before primer/foundation as this will mop up the oil. It is quite drying though.

Edit: TK Maxx seems to have quite a bit of Bare Minerals make up at the mo if you know your colours. They are the box sets.

Hope you managed to find something. I'd also recommend Boots No 7. Go to the No 7 counter and ask them to recommend a product, they're usually very good and will match the shade exactly to your skin tone.

I bought a bottle of Revlon colour stay in the end, they had a version for oily skin so hopefully it will work ok. I'm going to try it out at work this week and see how it holds up.
The only problem with it so far is that the bottle doesn't have a pump or nozzle, and isn't squeezy - it's like a glass ketchup bottle and I have to whack it to get the foundation out. Very impractical design!

I'm a big fan of the Revlon ColorStay foundations but agree about the bottles. I tend to decant some into a small round pot (like a sample or travel pot) which works well for me, especially when going on holiday/away for the weekend as I then don't need to take the whole bottle with me (which is quite heavy!)
