"Where will the nurses, dustmen, police live..." as if there are no other types of jobs in London.

Well I don't think anyone will shed a tear if s/w engineers or insurance brokers or any other back office function has to move out of London (and many of us would be happy to work elsewhere), but clearly there will be a problem if the rubbish doesn't get collected or the buses don't get driven.
My guess is that currently nurses and bus drivers etc. either already live in London and didn't buy at anything like todays prices or they live with someone else like mum or city banker spouse. Clearly that's not a sustainable situation.

With prices like that, the more obvious question is where will all the investment bankers live?

Will nobody think of the investment bankers?

In theory, technology and globalisation should mean that an investment banker can live pretty much anywhere whilst screwing up Western economies ;)

The sustainable solution is clearly RoboNurse, RoboDriver, etc. They just need a cupboard with a mains socket and wifi.

(Obviously, RoboCop has already been done.)

The sooner we allocate social housing in London to those who actually work there and contribute, the better.

People certainly have an odd idea of 'affordable' these days!

Its the old mindset of having to work in London. IT makes lots of jobs location independent so people could save an absolute fortune and improve their quality of life if they just got over the 'London' thing......

Plenty of people work at Canary Wharf in banking, and contribute a larger proportion of their income than say a nurse, teacher or rubbish collector, as well as a larger amount overall. Assume you're in favour of providing housing for bankers on that basis?!?

I suppose they will be happy when their rubbish mounts up and when they trip over it and break their leg and have to crawl to hospital which will be closed due to lack of staff.

Some IT jobs are London based. My husband couldn't find a job outside London so it's not a matter of choice or "getting over" London for us. He looked for 9 months.
Really if it was that easy to find a job near our home and family don't you think we'd have done it? I can assure you we would. He did not specifically look for a London job. That's all that was on offer at the time.

No - I don't think the suggestion was that those who contribute more financially get the houses.
The suggestion is that those who don't contribute at all get kicked out of London.

And dumped on some other city / town?

Theres no real way of cleansing London of certain people without moving the problem somewhere else.
