So it appears my investments are down about 7-8 % across the board . Apparently it's ok .
Not going to check for a few weeks and with luck will be back stronger . Gulp !

Aren't investments a bit like house prices?

It doesn't matter what they are worth until you need to cash them in (or sell your house?)

Our investments (shares/ISAs etc) have taken a dive over the last few days.
But we don't need to sell them right now so I'm not doing a headless chicken impression. :)

If you're still paying in it's good news - it means you're getting more shares for your money. It's only a problem if you plan to cash in in the reasonably near future - in which case you shouldn't really have the bulk of your pension in equities anyway.

My shares are down about £100k (from peak, not an actual loss, but my profit has seriously declined), but as you say it is only a paper loss. I invested another £10k near the bottom of Monday's turmoil. In 2008 our property portfolio was £1m down from peak, it is about £2m up from that dip now, as you say, it only counts when you sell.
