At the beginning of the year I won a Red Letter Day voucher for lunch at the Savoy. Just booked and heard that we will be given a discretionary bill of 12.5 % for service. Hard to refuse but it means we'll be paying more for our meal than we ever do on our budget.

Does discretionary means optional? Then just ask not to have it and opt for a smaller cash tip instead0

The extras can quickly add up in the savoy grill.
We had a set pre theatre meal in there (purchased with our tickets) which I know is probably different but be careful if its a set type menu. The meal was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed it but potatoes/chips etc were classed as extra and possibly bread (which is yummy) plus a couple of drinks, service charge and we still came out having to pay £84 for the two of us in extras. We decided the experience was worth it
