Information about a policy

Options
Hi,

I have a policy with Aviva "Life and Pensions UK Limited With-Profits Sub Fund" that has a long history. I believe it originates back to around 1980 when it was originally a Norwich Union plan.

Each year I get a statement from Aviva plus I occasional get letters. I was told a few years ago that this policy had a guaranteed pension of £3,492 per annum.

The problem I have is that I cannot seem to get details of exactly what this policy is from Aviva. When I phone them they say it is a "special Occupational Pension" and that they will get someone from a "Special Team" to call me back. They never seem to do this. All they will tell me is that it has a transfer value of £13,018.

Is there anything I can do to force Aviva to fully disclose all the details of this policy to me?

I don't need cash at the moment and I am not looking to transfer out. I just want to know about the policy so I can make the right decisions.

Norwich Union were very active in hybrid schemes back in the days you could. So, they have an awful lot that dont fit into a modern classification other than being referred to as "hybrid schemes". Many of them do have similarities to a section 32 buy out bond in structure.

I never have any problems getting Aviva to provide policy details. even on old hybrid schemes. However, the old hybrids do take a bit longer to be supplied as they are non-standard and need manual work.

I guess it depends on what you are asking for. In most cases you only need specifics and they are relatively easy to supply. Aviva issue policy detail summaries every day. If you are asking something more complicated or being non-specific, that may be why you are having problems.

My biggest Q would be why a pension of £3,492 pa, yet a measly TV of 13K?

Doesn't seem to add up (even with a decent GAR)

Write to Aviva (signed for) and set out the questions to which you want answers.

Were you once a member of an occupational scheme that was bought out by Norwich Union/Aviva?

Incidentally, have you read the policy document?

I have sent two letters signed for to AVIVA requesting information on my pension a day they have ignored both in the last month .
Simple question asked but no answer .

Do you have the policy document? What does it say about pension benefits and when they may be taken?

It would not be unreasonable to give Aviva four weeks to answer your first letter. As it was signed for, you know when it was received.

    See below re complaints.

  • Thanks for all the comments. I don't have an original policy but I do have some paperwork going back a while.

Maybe I am wrong but I just get the impression that Aviva would just like me to cash in the policy and go away. I would not accuse them of being dishonest but they are not being helpful in explaining the policy to me and what my options are.

I am going to take up the advice given here and write to them.

Both Will and Maggy might be interested in this thread - Aviva do not appear to be very forthcoming and need to be pinned down with precise questions......?

    post 39 post 41 post 43, post 44, post 52, post 58, post 63, post 76, post 81, post 85, post 89, post 91, post 93, post 94, post 101, post 108 , post 109, post 110.....

Admittedly the Bull had a number of pension arrangements but even after several communications with Aviva did not end up with an answer to his question about revaluation....

He is trying again post 113..

I suspect that there is no revaluation for reasons that I have set out in my posts, but as neilw says, Aviva should give the explanation and additional information requested.

It seems to me that a detailed explanatory letter from Aviva is what is required rather than a telephone call?
