Relocating & buying new house - mortgage before jobs - impossible?

First post, so hope I follow etiquette!

We've already approached a mortgage consultant with our questions but to be honest it didn't appear he listened to anything we said or that he was remotely interested.

We're looking to relocate from where we currently live in the South West to hubby's hometown (where his parents live still) in the West Midlands. We've already identified several houses of interest, all of which would be approximately £100k cheaper than the value we will be able to sell our current house for.

However, we would still need a small mortgage to make up the shortfall and to finance any updating/repairs/general DIY which all the houses require.

We've got a couple of issues:

1. I'm pregnant, due mid-January. So no chance of me finding a job at all in the time scale. We would ideally like to have moved by the time baby is due. We already have one child so this is an informed choice!

2. Hubby will need to find a new job, there's no option of the current job being relocated as it's employer-specific. However, how can he find a new job without living there? No employer will say "oh yes, I'll hire you but take your own sweet time moving yourself up here to actually start".

So...what are our options?!? We're looking at needing £45-60k to finance a house purchase, but how can we obtain it? Are there any mortgage lenders who would somehow accept our situation, maybe secured on the property? Large value loan providers? Magic unicorn glitter farts?

Hubby will be able to start employment with temp agencies immediately and has done this in the past, with a view to finding full-time permanent employment within 6 months. I plan to go back to work and am quite employable, honest. ;)

Any idea gratefully received!
