No mobile wifi but want to map runs

Options
Ok, I'm hopeless with technology so please bear with me as I'm hoping that there is an app available.

Basically, I want an app (android) that can calculate my distance run, in real time but doesn't require mobile wifi to run it.

Does such a thing exist?..

I'd consider something like a fitbit as long as it had a screen but do they need mobile wifi too? (I warned you I was hopeless with technology)

I'm fed up of running on a treadmill only but like the fact that the treadmill can tell me how far I've run as I'm actually running.

Thanks in advance

I've no experience of running apps but I would have thought that they would be able to give you what you want using the GPS alone with no data needed.

Most apps use a combination of gps (for location) & 3g (for mapping) rather than wifi

You don't need Internet connection while you are actually running. I use strava on an old iphone with no sim card. I just connect to wifi when I get home to upload the run.

I used to use my phone for running, but used Runkeeper which uses data and gps. I eventually got a garmin watch (forerunner 110, which is cheap because it's discontinued but still really good). it's much better than using a phone....no hassle and you can check it easily while running. Worth buying at about £90 if you plan to do a bit of running. I can use it abroad too, so I guess it's possible for to do it without any data on a phone as well, using the right app.

I used to log my running or walking on the Map My Walk website after I'd done it and save it to my profile. It requires remembering your route but as long as you do that after your run (or walk) you can keep a log going.
