Gidt towards deposit from Godfather

Apologies, that was supposed to read gift!!
I am in a position where my Godfather has said that he will be helping us with money towards a deposit. Amount unknown at present as he is waiting for his Mum's estate to be finalised and amounts provided once split between beneficiaries.
My partner has been told that we won't be able to use it towards a deposit as he is not a blood relative.
Is there any way around this please?
Thank you, oh wise ones!

Your Partner has been misinformed.
Policy on non family gifts depends on the lender - this is no problem if you use the right one.
