Mortgage with Maternity Leave (again)
Comments
-
I went through this recently with YB. They said they would take my wife's salary into account if we provided a letter from her employer stating that she would be returning to her job after her maternity ended.
The way I see it is this is a legal obligation by the employer; you are entitled to return to work under the same T&Cs after returning from maternity. So you get the letter and then your wife could still choose not to go back as you will already have the mortgage agreed. The lender won't know or care - as long as (and critically) you are able to keep up the repayments. They will look dimly on you if you did not.
I also echo others (especially the ever and eminently sensible Thrugelmir) about the costs of children. Emotional and financial ;0)0
