hi all has anyone checked their travel insurance to see if they are covered if they fly from Dublin,I have checked a few insurance companys and have been told that because I have left the UK (Belfast) I will not be covered for a delayed, cancelled or missed flight from Dublin but the rest of the trip is covered!!!!.I for one didnt know this so I am letting anyone traveling out of Dublin to check their travel insurance very carefully as I cant find an insurance company to cover me for this part of the trip, anyone out there realised this and found an insurance company to cover this as I travel in 4 weeks and dont want to pay for insurance thats not right for me and remember a lot of us travel out of Dublin

Gee...that is a bit of a bummer, you mean your first point of departure is actually outside of the UK, surely this is sorta sharp practice, ie we are all in the EU, and policies per say should now reflect that!!!??0

hi I know it was just told to me and when I checked it out I have found out that every time I traveled from Dublin we were not covered by insurance so anyone traveling out of Dublin will have to have a good look at their insurance0

I have travelled from Dublin Airport in the past.
I asked the same question from my insurer about the journey not starting in the UK.
I was told that that my journey / holiday starts when I leave my house not when I board the plane.0 -
I'm flying from Dublin later this week and after reading your post, just checked my insurance policy (purchased from Moneysupermarket.com)
It says, "Cover applies door to door so the appropriate benefits, unless stated otherwise, apply within your country of departure once you commence your trip and during your return journey to your home"
Not quite 100% sure whether that will include the South of Ireland so will phone and check on Monday.
Thanks,

I once got a quote from Egg insurance for travel insurance and was worried about the flying out of Dublin thing, so I rang to clarify. The girl on the other end of the phone said she didn't understand why, if I wasn't near London, I couldn't just book a flight from Manchester or Birmingham instead. I didn't know if the appropriate reaction to that was
or  or even :rotfl:.
I got my insurance elsewhere......0 -
