I have the L72D - Great monitor, nothing but praise. Note there is an L72D+ which has the contrast ration of 700:1 (the L72D is 500:1)

Hi cochise - did you have to make any settings adjustments within Windows the first time you installed the monitor?

I have yet to try the settings adjustments suggested in an earlier post, but how clear exactly is the picture on your monitor?

The edges of the text were very washed out and text was not uniformly thick when I installed the monitor last night.

Also - are you using the DVI connection?

I hope I can get it to be as good as you say it is!

    Thanks

londonman: judging by your description, I can virtually guarantee that your resolution and/or refresh rate is set incorrectly. Trust me, I'm a nerd. :)

set it to 70hz and 1280*1024
  • Alternatively try 19" AG Neovo at Dabs for £199 + £4 delivery (it came next day).

It looks good, has DVI but not sure about response speeds.

Got mine and its great - dozens of rave reviews on Dabs site too.

I've got one of the 19 inch Hitachi LCD monitors and thought it was pretty good. Then I chanced across a Microsoft Powertoy called the Cleartype tuner (get it from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx and then look on the right of the screen). It does some jiggery pokery with the screen fonts and to my tired old eyes they look considerably better.

Some of the other Powertoys are pretty neat as well !

    Cheers,
    Rob.

If you're moving from a CRT to a TFT and you're using Windows XP, remember to change your refresh rate and turn on cleartype. Go to Start Menu --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Display. Then...

Refresh rate: Go to the Settings tab, click on the advanced button, go to the Monitor tab then change the "Screen refresh rate" to 60 Hertz. Then click OK

Cleartype: Then go to the Appearance tab, click on the Effects button. Tick the box next to "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts", and select Cleartype from the options. Click OK on all the boxes left open.

Oh, and remember that TFTs have what's called a "native resolution", looks like the above is 1280x1024. Make sure that your resolution is set to the same otherwise your screen won't be running at optimal quality. You can change it from the Settings tab mentioned above.

Done all of the above just now and much much better! It was set to 1024 X 768 or something and changing the resolution certainly brought the picture quality back to life.

Only problem left now is that thin black text such as what I am typing now has a rainbow-esque tinge/halo around it.

Instead of having a sharp solid black edge on text I can see greens and reds.

I tried the ClearType Tuner from Microsoft but it didn't help with this problem - infact it made it slightly worse.

I don't think I'm being fussy because this rainbowy tinge is clearly visible.

Any more hints on how to remove this? If not then I might send it back because I think I should be able to have a very good quality 17inch monitor for the nearly £200 I have paid - especially when I read such great reviews for every other TFT on websites! Would dearly like to keep it as it looks good and don't want the hassle of guessing my next buy (if only there was a way of seeing a TFT screen perform in front of my eyes before buying one!).

I've also got a DVI graphics card on its way - will that make much difference??

    Thanks to everyone so far!

    L

P.S The rainbowy tinge I'm talking about is mosrt apparent with dark text which is on a white or other light background - in case it gives anyoen any clues! Ta!

    From the Hyundai support section:
Black color changes to green color.
A smearing effect may happen on any defective monitor. In many cases, such symptom may be resolved by making a slight adjustment.
(Slightly different input values may cause such effect.)
First, let me explain how to recover the normal state of your display.
(You must set your display with care. If anything is not clear to you, ensure to contact our Service Center for help.)
    1. Turn your monitor off.
    2. Turn your monitor on by pressing the Power button while pressing your monitor Menu ke
    3. You will see FACTORY MODE in the middle of the screen.
    4. Select INITIAL item from the Menu.
    5. The smearing effect will disappear.

Worth a shot. The only other thing I can think of is to make sure your cable is connected properly (screwed in firmly both ends), and maybe re-route it to make sure it's not picking up interference from something nearby (like speakers). Even try just moving it around to see if the shadow comes and goes. I'm presuming you're not using a switch box (KVM) between PC and monitor.

Hmmm.....annoyingly I don't get the 'FACTORY MODE' screen after pressing the Power and Menu buttons (after switching monitor off).

I have to say that the Hyundai English Language instructions are absolutely rubbish - sentences make next to no sense. The installation sheet that came with the monitor was very very badly worded and laid out....and what does this sentence mean:

A smearing effect may happen on any defective monitor.

If a monitor is defective then surely that's the end of the story - isn't that admitting that the product is faulty?!

Anyway I've tried following these instructions and like I say I do not get the screens they mention....

    :-(
